As of May 2021, comparing VYG with VUG and SCHD with SCHG there is very little overlap between them (7 and 17, respectively, out of 100-400. I could pretty much complement one with the other.The two options I’m looking at is VOO or FXAIX. I use fidelity as my primary brokerage. I’m going to put the S&P 500 in my ROTH IRA account. Based on the numbers FXAIX is $146.29 and VOO is 386.06. They have similar dividends. My logic is to buy FXAIX, because it’s cheaper and I can buy more shares with the same amount of money.Qualified is taxed as capital gains which can be a lower tax bracket depending on your income level. As such SCHD is more tax efficient since its dividend payout is lower (~3% vs ~9%) and the 3% dividend is taxed at a lower tax rate.
